Hermetic

This character study features an idiomatic guitar part. Normally I write simple lines that I can play myself, but David’s skill inspired me to try something a bit more challenging.

Maria Alejandra Velasquez Restrepo – voice
David Sossa Fernández – guitar

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

In the beginning
An empty plain.
Just streaks of whispering dust
From here to stark horizon.

When it starts raining
What sprouts is pure.
Pale slender trembling leaflets
Stretch up toward the sunlight.

With cultivation,
The garden blooms.
Largess attracts corruption,
Invasive creepers twining.

Bring forth the flooding
And I’ll retreat
Into an airtight vessel
Cast off from all the clamour.

The rats are leaving the ship.
I need to clarify:
The rats are leaving the ship,
And its a good thing.
The rats are leaving the ship.
Good riddance vermin:
I’ll finally be left alone.

I need my secret
Hermetic place,
Where I can work my magic
Unsullied by onlookers.

Shake off the clingers
Pressed to the glass,
Contaminating my work:
Get thee gone from my cloister.

The rats are leaving the ship.
I need to clarify:
The rats are leaving the ship,
And its a good thing.
The rats are leaving the ship.
Good riddance vermin:
I’ll finally be left alone.
