Upon completing the first Telescope, which took a number of attempts at the various sections, I had a hankering to go right back at it again, which resulted in this version. Both are built on the same plan, based on Dufay’s Nuper Rosarum Flores. Other than repeating the material in the third section, first without the cantus firmi, then with them, the intention of this second piece is quite different. This one does not have the model’s coda, and uses different cantus firmi. Instead of remaining in the same mode throughout, Telescope II ascends a tone in each division.
