Reverence

A.

Your first approach.
Tread yellow sand
Swept into crescent dunes
Scored with swerving ripples corrugate.

When you debouch:
Keen ozone tang,
Brine sudden on your tongue,
Bracing wash of sea breeze in your face.

B.

Slow rolling curls collapse, expire.
Primordial, dull rhythm chants,
Curl-fingered terraces advance,
With sighing whisper hiss, retire.

Continuous, smooth soothing swaths,
Successive moments coalesce.
Discern within, the deeper pulse
of tidal forces: ocean breaths.

C.

Hypnotic stillness settles on
Singular band emerging, darkening
Inexorably upward drawn
‘Till thinly poised, suffused aquamarine
Upon it’s glistening brink, white comb;
Collapse exhales – sibilant foam.

D.

You’re buoyed with awe of ocean’s breadth.
Upon the strand, you can but glimpse her edge.
Cast your eyes o’er her vast-spread distance:
Compressed into horizon line
Elusively far, infinitely fine:
Still scarcely graze her compass immense.
