Utter is a nine movement instrumental piece. Each movement is tonally related to its neighbours in a cohesive structure. To reduce file sizes, the movements have been released separately.

While I was writing the piece, I thought it could work well as a keyboard quintet with ad lib percussion, provided the keyboard was capable of sustained notes. I would really love to hear it arranged as a viol quartet with chamber organ. For this recording, the instruments are 2 guitars, baritone guitar, bass, organ/synth, and drums/percussion. In a few movements, ‘cello substitutes for baritone or bass.
